Harland Brickwork Contractors were founded in 1986 by the present Managing Director Tony Harland.
He began his career in masonry as a fifteen year old serving an apprenticeship with Gleeson Construction. As an apprentice
he worked on many iconic structures in Sheffield including the Manpowers building at Moorfoot, and the now demolished "egg
box" Town Hall.
After being approached by a number of companies to tender for brickwork contracts, a new
inovation in the nineteen eighties, Harland Brickwork were awarded the brickwork contract to build the Barnbow tank factory
in Leeds for Shepherd Construction in1986. The building was over a third of a mile long, and proved a challenging but successful
debut! More contracts followed including the British Library stores in Leeds and the Harrogate Conference Centre.
By the nineties Harland Brickwork had moved into residential housing both in the private and public sector. The company
had also diversified into stone masonary, both from single design and build homes, to more substantial developments.
Into the millenium the company continued to build on its strong foundations moving into regeneration projects and
council house building, which ironically is where the majority of brickwork consisted of many years ago.
Harland Brickwork have a simple philosophy. Produce a quality product at the right price and the future will take care of
itself.
The buildings that bricklayers and stone masons build today will outlive them, therefore we believe that
quality and pride in the job should be standard.
